n June of 1951, Lyubov announced she was
pregnant. Iosif was delighted—he was 27 years old
and ready for a family. The chief medical doctor at
the base was a iend of Iosif 's. This doctor examined
Lyubov and declared that the baby was active and
well. He would be available to deliver the baby at the
local hospital. But as soon as Lyubov's sisters heard
the news, they clamored for her to deliver the
baby in Moscow.
