Family Is All That Matters 134
Naum says of Shlomo. "He was very strict with
following the rules." Naum recalls that his first
memory of Manya was as a "very vivacious girl,
always asking to go to the theater." Says Manya,
"I was 20 years old and very much a ee spirit.
I was working and taking evening courses. I
had very little time for romance." Nevertheless,
Naum won her over and on August 15, 1954,
they were married in Moscow. The Jewish
ceremony and reception were at Inna's home,
with more than 100 people in attendance.
At first, the couple had very little money
and lived in a small room in a communal
apartment. Their son Yefim London was born
on November 27, 1954, in Moscow. "Shlomo
insisted we circumcise Yefim, and we did,"
Naum says. The Volsun family's dedication
to education was well preserved in the
London family. Yefim eventually attended the
Aircra Engineering Institute in Moscow and
immigrated to New York in July of 1981. There
he married Rachel Mailer on April 22, 1994.
Their son, Jonathon, was born the next year.
Yefim's sister, Margarita London, was born on
January 15, 1957, and eventually attended the
Economic Sciences Institute in Moscow before
immigrating to New York in July of 1981. She
married Alexander London on August 18,
