ava Brandes Volsun was a strong woman with
a strong spirit. It was easy for her to smile.
Although she had much to cry about, she avoided
showing her tears. Iosif recalls her crying only three
times: when little Shmuel died, when Rosa was
mobilized into the army, and when World War II
ended. Then she shed tears of happiness.
