he courtship of Lyubov and Iosif was like a
Hollywood movie. They met when Lyubov was
22 and Iosif 27. As in most Januaries during that
period of his life, Iosif was on holiday in Moscow,
taking every opportunity he could to visit his family.
The Air Force Mechanics School in Volsk (where he
worked), which took about 300 students for a one-
year program, was closed in January because students
arrived in February and graduated in December.
Though the school was 500 miles south of Moscow,
Iosif preferred to come home to be with his parents
and sisters.
