The Foundations of the Volftsun Family The Foundations of the Volftsun Family
From its vantage point in the first decade of the 21st
century, the Volftsun family can trace its heritage back
approximately 200 years. Part One recounts what is known
about Shlomo Volftsun and Hava Brandes, the family's
patriarch and matriarch, and their children. Many of their
stories are preserved here for the first time. We learn about their
values, which are remarkably similar to the values expressed
by the current generation of Volftsuns. In the events of tzarist
Russia, the distant rumblings of the Soviet Union—storms that
would propel the family from Russia to America—
are discernible. We are indebted to the ancestors of the
Volftsun and Brandes families, for their faith, hard work,
perseverance, and commitment to survival in very difficult
circumstances are a standard even today. The more we know
about them, the more impressed and committed we are to honor
those who came before. These are individuals to be not merely
respected and honored. These are individuals whose qualities
continue to be our own.
