One of Canada's first designated "green" golf courses, Clear Lake Golf
Course is located along the shore of Clear Lake, within the boundaries
of Riding Mountain National Park. To this day, nature and sustainability
initiatives are a cornerstone of the Course's foundation. The topography and
beauty of the setting make this golf course both beautiful and challenging.
Many of the holes look westward, with stunning sunsets reflecting over the
calm waters of Clear Lake.
When renowned course architect Stanley Thompson was asked to consult
on the design, he discovered a landscape of rolling hills, thick forest, and an
ever-flowing stream that meanders throughout the property. In consultation
with Canadian National Park leadership and course designer Vic Creed, he
established one of Manitoba's most enjoyable destination golf courses.
This historic course was built in two stages, commencing in 1928, with the
complete nine opening for play in 1934. Featuring four sets of tees, at 6,309
yards from the back tee, the course may not seem long to many, but Clear
Lake is more than a beautiful course; it is designed to be enjoyed by all skill
levels.
The 17th is one of Manitoba's most memorable par 3s. Played from three
elevated tee boxes, the back tee plays 115 yards to a postage stamp kidney-
shaped green that lies 60 feet below. The hole is perfectly protected, as the
aptly named Bogey Creek captures many an errant shot and three large
bunkers provide added protection, minimizing the number of par that are
recorded on this signature hole.
