As a principle, Ken and Akiko Freeman make what they
like to drink. The wines that come from Freeman Vineyard
& Winery are small-lot wines, handpicked from separated
blocks. Winemaker Ed Kurtzman came to Freeman from
highly esteemed wineries to work with the passionate duo.
Contracted with some of the leading growers in the region,
the winery gets most of its fruit from the mountains, for the
flavors there are much bigger.
Their specific practices, such as picking the fruit at night to
keep the grapes cool, mean that Mother Nature is allowed to
express her best qualities in Freeman's wines. The wine itself
has been described as having a feminine touch, mostly due
to Akiko's influence on the process.
The French have always said that wine is grown in the vineyards.
The elegance and balance of Freeman's wines verifies that the
winery's selection process is phenomenal. High elevations
combined with some of California's remarkable redwoods
create an ecosystem bar none in the American wine industry,
and truly beyond; one of the top exporters of wine to Japan,
Freeman Vineyard & Winery is dedicated to creating food-
friendly wine full of depth and character.
Freeman Vineyard & Winery encapsulates Sonoma County
with outstanding bottles, proving that a dream can be made
manifest when it is propelled by enthusiasm and passion.
