The Inspired Home The Inspired Home 8 This project came at a meaningful time for the homeowner, and I wanted the design to feel like a fresh beginning, something sophisticated and contemporary, but also comfortable enough to truly live in. Throughout the kitchen and living spaces, we worked with a restrained palette of neutrals and black, allowing form, texture, and craftsmanship to create the interest. When you're designing with fewer colors, every detail becomes that much more important. The materials, proportions, lighting, and transitions between spaces all must work together. One of my favorite elements is the lighting. The custom 12-pendant chandelier in the kitchen was created with cast glass and became an incredible focal point. We carried that same appreciation for sculptural lighting throughout the home, along with distinctive fire features and carefully selected materials that add warmth and dimension to the clean architecture. It was also important that the kitchen and living areas felt connected without losing their individual personalities. Repeating finishes helped establish continuity, while custom cabinetry, furnishings, and unexpected details gave each area its own character. Contemporary design is most successful when simplicity doesn't come at the expense of personality. This home has very clean lines, but it never feels cold or predictable. There are layers to discover, and that balance between restraint and individuality is what makes the finished spaces feel so special. Shoot Stylist: Elle Taft Lighting: Hammerton Inc.
