of darkness and the cracks of light coming through and the lack of openness. What is there? What sleeps there? You're not sure where all of these passages go, and you're not sure what is going to be at the end of all of them. It stirs you. Caves are a place to create rituals and legends and traditions in family groups—sort of a sanctuary for meditation and privacy as well as a place for celebration, I'm sure. And that makes me think of a birthday dinner we did for Hugh Johnson that my friend Molly Chappellet was so involved in. I was the one who walked down with Hugh and took that left turn into the little crossbar section of the cave that Molly had transformed into a garden. I still almost tremble to think about it; it was such an emotional experience, just stunning." Today Hugh Davies, who played in the caves as a child, continues the work and carries on the dream his parents, Jack and Jamie, who started together more than 40 years ago.
