A surprise party for Hugh Johnson turned Schramsberg cellars into a garden, a study
and a fairyland banquet hall. A flute echoing in the dark corridor led the guests
from the garden study to a short concert of Handel's Water Music. Continuing the
Pisces birthday theme on the dining table, fish bowls held tulips and goldfish with tall
branches of Magnolia stellata reflected in each guest's mirrored pond. Candlelight lit
up the front row of 250,000 sparkling wine bottles stacked in the alcove beyond.
