Don't be daunted by the idea of a formal dinner party, be
inspired! If you're going it alone, keep it simple. Keep. It. Simple.
Focus on the parts that are most important to you and
unabashedly outsource the rest. Start with dessert. Choose
something that sounds fun and make it well ahead of time
so that you can enjoy the process of baking it. If you're doing
a pie and the crust is daunting to you, just buy it readymade
and make the filling from scratch. To make life a little
easier, and make dinner a little more interactive, you can
even do a mixture of serving the entrée plated and serving
the sides family-style. Maybe bring out the food in waves to
carry on the evening's momentum and keep people
anticipating what will come next. Of course, there's always
the option of setting up the dinner buffet-style and have guests
design their own plate.
