Fried Green Tomatoes
yield: 6-8 pieces
3 large green tomatoes
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups cornmeal
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
2 tablespoons kosher salt
6 cups vegetable oil
Heat oil in cast iron skillet to 350 degrees. Slice large
green tomatoes into

3
-inch-thick slices. Combine
eggs with milk and set aside. Combine ½ cup flour,
cornmeal, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and
pepper in a shallow pan. Place remaining ½ cup
flour in a shallow pan. Cooking instructions: dredge
tomato slices in flour, dip tomato slices in the egg
mixture, dredge tomato slices in cornmeal mixture,
fry the breaded tomato slices for 3-5 minutes on
each side until golden brown, drain on paper towels
or a rack, and sprinkle hot tomatoes with salt.
