ABOVE: Respectful of the original 1928 architecture, the new design is
conducive to modern living. Rustic wood beams brought in by Amish
woodworkers serve as the transition between the sitting area and the
kitchen, where friends and family members are welcomed for casual visits.

FACING PAGE TOP: The dining room was opened up to foster better flow for
entertaining. Clerestories, glass doors, and expanses of windows provide
a delightful connection to the outdoors and give the home a sculptural
quality.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: The 1920s-era home was in need of a renovation.
The owner—a furniture designer by trade—desired an open-concept
layout with a large, bistro-inspired kitchen. The original warming oven
from 1955 was preserved, and a custom hood was added over the stove,
behind which an enormous marble slab was installed. The wood-topped
island features a raised zinc bar. Beyond the island, a stairway leads to the
second floor. Outside, the back terrace steps down to the pool, creating
a pleasant outdoor living space.
