A R C H I T E CT U R E 169 ABOVE: Her taste is traditional, and he's a modernist, so blending the couple's preferences was a challenge when designing the two-story home. The contemporary exterior features windows with a subtle Asian influence, as well as an upper balcony and a lower patio. RIGHT: The interior colors harken back to the wife's childhood mid-century modern home without denying the husband sleek, modern features. Since the home sits on a high bluff with the closest neighbor about 150 feet away and down the hill, floor-to-ceiling windows capture 180-degree views of Seattle, Lake Washington, and the Olympic Mountains without sacrificing privacy. FACING PAGE TOP LEFT: Stepping into the entryway of a Bellevue home, you're presented with views of downtown almost immediately. The curved roof features a skylight that floods the north-facing home with much natural light. FACING PAGE TOP RIGht: This Build GreenĀ® home is located in Grand Ridge a wooded hilltop residential community in Issaquah. The view of the dining room from the study features a large sloped roof, wood paneling, and concrete columns. Light floods the space from the adjacent windows. FACING PAGE BOTTOM: Built in a subdivision of large estate lots that required the conservation of as many trees as possible, the Grand Ridge home features sloping metal roofs to help shed the pine needles. A substantial cantilevered deck extends over the ravine on the back of the home, giving you a sense that it's floating. Photograph by Ed Sozinho of Sozinho Imagery
