D E S I G N B U I L D 337 JLF Design Build JLF Design Build designs extraordinary buildings that reflect the power of the landscape around them. For more than three decades, this philosophy has positioned JLF at the forefront of modern place-based architecture in the American West and throughout the country and has fostered innovative breakthroughs that have set new standards for design-build. The team's formula is simple: they work with a small number of clients who demand exceptional design, the highest quality of craftsmanship, and timeless, distinctive building materials to set their vision apart. JLF's professionals believe that architecture is a process, not a product. Exploring ideas, giving informed advice, responsible cost estimating, discussion, discovery, and innovation are the sustaining values of architecture. JLF Design Build's projects appropriately combine cost- effectiveness with the creative process for holistic results that embrace the place. JLF Design Build was created by the principals of JLF & Associates, a nationally recognized architecture and planning firm, and Big-D Signature, a nationally prominent construction management company. Collectively, they recognized the flaws and conflicts in traditional project delivery and sought a different way. JLF Design Build works with each client to design a structure that meets their needs, expresses their individuality, and finds a life of its own. BOZEMAN LEFT: Found miles from civilization in northern Montana, the original stone ruin was first viewed through ranch fields upon cresting a ridge, and the new location mirrors that view as much as possible. To salvage the original hand-cut craftwork and weathering pattern, each stone was numbered before being deconstructed and moved. The building's new location features blended additions that showcase the intrinsic beauty and simplicity of the stone. Photographs by Audrey Hall
