A R C H I T E CT U R E 165 ABOVE: Seven-foot wood paneling provides for easy cleanup and repair when necessary in a home for a growing family. The mirror over the fireplace is a technical feat. The glass itself is mounted on a lift mechanism that carries it up and into the hidden pocket above, while the frame remains stationary to surround the television behind. The execution was challenging, as a load-bearing beam for the second floor is located very near the top of the fireplace. RIGHT: When entering the home—an example of AOME's more formal and traditional approach—a balcony that connects both sides of the upstairs delays the reveal of the expansive living beyond similar in principal to the previous featured home. Bright white wood paneling and coffering details on the ceiling add to the dressed up feeling of the space. FACING PAGE TOP: A modern twist on a traditional seaside cottage, the home features a large outdoor room right off the kitchen that is covered by a glass trellis—making it seem completely open to the sky. Expansive windows allow for ample light on sunny days and multiple views of the water at the edge of the yard. FACING PAGE BOTTOM: A custom 6-foot range draws the eye and becomes the central focus of the kitchen. Two sets of matching cabinets flank the hood on either side, creating symmetry when paired with the three fixtures over the marble- topped central island. Just beyond is the glass-surrounded dining area that takes advantage of the views. Photographs by Mike Jensen Photography
