A R C H I T E CT U R E 167 Baylis Architects, AIA Since 1972, the team at Baylis Architects, AIA has created captivating works of art for everyday living. Founded on the principles that architecture firms should deliver a triad of offerings throughout the process—beautiful buildings and spaces, transparent budgets, realistic schedules—Baylis Architects has become renowned for its award- winning homes and its connection with clients. First and foremost, a home is about the people. For many of the Baylis team, architecture provides a way to craft functional art while serving as a conduit for the owners to create memories and connections of their own. No style is off-limits, although many clients seek the firm out based on their modern meets Northwest aesthetic. The bulk of Baylis Architects' clientele is based on referrals, a testament to the relationships the team cultivates with homeowners, who appreciate the firm's dedication to honesty and transparency. This level of communication is essential to the team, together with the homeowner, as they conceptualize and then reveal the flow and form of the design that will make the home a dynamic masterpiece. With an eye to form, scale, materials, and proportion, the team draws inspiration first from the iconic natural setting, taking topography, environment, and of course the views into account. Then like a Renaissance work, the contextual cues for the home—drawn from the location and the people who live there—is layered into the design. Finally, the team adds the owners' lifestyle, vision, and personalities to the drawings, which are far more descriptive and specific than most, according to the builders with whom Baylis partners. The result is an array of one-of-a-kind homes thoughtfully built to stand the test of time. Large covered outdoor spaces offer flexible entertaining options for the owners who love to host extravagant parties.
