A R C H I T E CT U R E 259 2form Architecture People and nature are intrinsically linked. How these two forms of life interact inspires the team at 2form Architecture to create functional and beautiful buildings that stand the test of time. Led by principal Richard Shugar, the firm designs residential, multi- family, commercial, and institutional projects that are responsive to both the site and the people who will use them. Each project is unique, and no design is duplicated at 2form, but a few concepts prevail in the firm's portfolio. Respect for the environment— whether the project is LEED certified or not—and intentionally designed floorplans customized for the people who will live and use the space are hallmarks of the firm's work. Richard explains it as the difference between a jewelry box, which is beautifully created for a purpose, and a shoe box that's simply made to hold things inside. When you enter a 2form home, you can feel that difference. From the first moment that Richard meets with a new client, he welcomes them into the process, inspired by the active collaboration of all parties. In fact, some owners choose to be onsite with the team often, fueling the process with even more creativity. No matter how much or how little clients want to be involved, Richard always takes the time to help them learn about the practice of architecture and the fundamentals of design that go into each home. He approaches each encounter with a heart focused on helping owners set realistic expectations while nurturing their dreams. The result is a close relationship between clients and the 2form team, and homes of impeccable quality that are as distinctive as their owners. LEFT: Capitalizing on the local resources, this home enjoys beautiful views, natural light-flooded interiors, and a ground source heat pump that efficiently heats the home. The lot was large enough to accommodate the heat pump's loops, which partially run under the main residence, which is clad in stained cedar siding and crowned with sheet metal roofing over structural insulated panels.
