C U STO M B U I L D E R 269 TOP RIGHT: Traditional elements mingle in the bathroom of an older home, which was updated for modern needs and sensibilities. Marble panels frame the mirrors and 1930s-inspired light fixtures. The vanity mimics a piece of furniture, further elevating the space. MIDDLE RIGHT: The master bedroom of the Shaw House features a floating wall behind the bed that seems to cascade down from the ceiling. Throughout the project, Cornerstone Construction and Maison Inc. Interior Design team members continually asked themselves what John Yeon, the original architect, would do as they made design decisions. BOTTOM RIGHT: A luxurious transitional kitchen features two large-scale islands with lantern-like light fixtures above. Along the back wall, a tiled alcove surrounds the range top and oven. The coffered ceiling, blown up in scale, complements the modern-meets-traditional feel of the space. Photographs courtesy of Cornerstone Construction FACING PAGE TOP: The iconic Shaw House was slated for demolition when Cornerstone Construction stepped in and offered a different option. The mid-century modern home was built by John Yeon in the 1950s and was a favorite in the region. The crew tore the home down by hand to preserve the integrity of the design before it was rebuilt. As with all aspects of the home, the front entry reflects Yeon's original design. FACING PAGE BOTTOM: Every element was painstakingly recreated in the rebuilding process. The original fascia profiles, fireplace, and exterior patio detailing were retained during the process, while the internal systems— heating/cooling, electrical, plumbing—were all updated to modern standards.
