BOTTOM LEFT: The renovation of a living room and the
addition of a small sunroom in a 1960s Raleigh Hills property
in southwest Portland enhanced the home's beautiful, original
landscape. Formally solid walls, the sides flanking the full-
height fireplace furnished with a statement-making Dale
Chihuly sculpture, were converted to glass. The additional
transparency provides a view to the sunroom and exterior
Japanese gardens beyond. A recessed, wood sliding door
provides visual and acoustic privacy between the living room
and sunroom.
BOTTOM RIGHT: The homeowners' private wine cellar was a
secondary part of the renovation. A curved stairway slopes
underground to the cozy space that is outfitted in rich,
buttery mahogany.
FACING PAGE: The sunroom is nothing short of a peaceful
haven enveloped by the striking Japanese garden outside.
Light, natural woods and modern, slightly whimsical
furnishings, selected by interior designer Henry Brown,
were both paramount for the space to coincide with its
exterior surroundings.
