ABOVE LEFT: The courtyard integrates nature and manmade
craftsmanship, providing an artful place to enjoy sunny days.
ABOVE RIGHT: Brazilian cherry floors, fir window frames,
and cedar ceilings give material expression to the San
Juan Island residence's modern concept. Materials used
on the exterior continue inside, emphasizing the connection
between indoors and out.
RIGHT: The rectilinear fireplace presents a stately focal point
in the home's great room. Its cast-in-place hearth with precast
panels and custom Corten metal mantel, aged and sealed to
protect its patina, contrast with the cedar ceilings above.
FACING PAGE TOP & BOTTOM: An outdoor patio and second
story balcony on the water-facing side of the home are perfect
for experiencing the outdoors and enjoying the ocean view.
Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the residence with natural
light, and columns designed to evoke the trees reinforce the
connection with the outdoors.
