BELOW: When longtime clients wanted to downsize to a
smaller home, they decided to take advantage of a small
piece of property adjacent to a hotel of which they are
part owners. Concrete, charred horizontal cedar boards,
galvanized steel, and the red cedar-clad wharfinger room
at the top of the home create an industrial feel that makes
the building look like it's been on the waterfront for years.
FACING PAGE TOP AND BOTTOM: The bottom floor of the
home along the commercial waterfront is a hotel suite for
the inn next door, while the middle and top floor make
up the owners' private residence. The living room boasts
fir beams and a warm fireplace. Custom built-ins feature
the owners' extensive art collection. An attached balcony
allows the owners to take advantage of the incredible view.

"The house is the backdrop
for life. If we can create a
space that brings people
joy and makes them want to
linger, we have succeeded."
–Eric Richmond
