TOP RIGHT: One of two hidden spaces in the second-floor
living room provides storage for cleaning supplies. On the
opposite side of the wall is an entrance to a secret guest
bedroom for the owners' daughter, complete with twinkle
lights. It's the grown-up version of her girlhood dream. To
make room for the spaces, an unused attic area with garage
access was repurposed and finished out.
BOTTOM RIGHT: After the carpet was removed, the stairs were
refinished in wood with risers painted in the owner's favorite
color. The previously dark front door was painted to match. A
full wall used to separate the stairway and the kitchen above,
but now a half wall allows views of the top floor as one climbs
the stairs. Natural light moves easily through the spaces.
FACING PAGE TOP: The living room includes two deep chairs
that recline and swivel. They provide the perfect place to
enjoy the beautiful scenery just outside. Pops of orange
mingle with the fun coffee table and comfortable couch in a
space that's as surprising and energetic as the people who
call the house their vacation home.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: Opposite the large bathtub in the
island-inspired master bathroom, a tiled shower features a
toiletries niche built into the wall and a small bench. Gray
tiles arranged in a mosaic "rug" in front of the vanity add a
touch of elegance, while a skylight above the vanity floods
the bathroom with even more light.
