"Being able to transform
unpleasant or unusable
spaces into innovative
focal points is the beauty
of construction."
–Jason Stockman
BELOW: The second-story addition includes a master suite
that was integrated into one space to form a loft-like feel.
Large pieces with clean, simple lines give an uncluttered
visual strength, and the layout and material selection allow
for views of the water.
FACING PAGE TOP: Native slate, fir, and cedar are incorporated
throughout the home's common spaces for a warm West
Coast contemporary feel. The kitchen features three different
types of countertops: cedar, naturally compressed stone, and
resin that mimics beach glass. The resin panel is translucent
when underlit, but with the light off, it becomes opaque—a
very interactive and artful addition.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: While revitalizing a decaying beach
house into a contemporary residence, Artisan added a second
floor and more than 2,000 square feet of decking. Significant
structural and geotechnical engineering was required to
support the extra weight. The decks were constructed with
both functionality and beauty in mind, using elements such
as frameless glass railings to seamlessly merge the property
with the ocean, while the lines of the decking offer striking
angularity and visual rhythm.
