RIGHT: As the 9,000-square-foot West Vancouver Private
Residence unfolds, it reveals a number of thoughtful intricacies
such as this bridge that connects the two sides of the home
via its dual-sided upper patio decks. The landscaped walkway
beneath the bridge allows access to the upper patio, basement,
and exercise room while also leading to the washroom for aprés-
pool rinses.
BELOW: An expansive upper deck is a relaxing refuge that looks
out towards Howe Sound for a breathtaking vista from sunrise
to sunset. Its orientation was intended to utilize the sun control
provided by the house and take advantage of the view. A pond at
the end of the passive patio spills down into the waterfall above the
pool, visually connecting the home with the Howe Sound beyond.
FACING PAGE TOP: The three-story, L-shaped home's duality is fully
demonstrated with the backside of the property that telescopes
out to Howe Sound. What was a more opaque front entrance
gives way to complete transparency at the back with walls of glass
that were made to celebrate the beauty of the waterfront location.
The home's multiple levels and the stepped, arched roof respond
to the steeply sloped topography of the site. At the left of the
property, above the pool, is the master suite with a wall of sliding
doors and glass balcony that effectively transform the room into
another deck.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: The second upper deck of the home is
a more active patio located just off the family room and kitchen.
Likewise boasting a spectacular 180-degree view of the water,
the space is made for entertaining with its outdoor dining area,
fireplace, and grill.
