ABOVE: The new entry is on the side of the home. A diagonal
post braces the roof while adding an artistic element to the
design. Other surprises include a pipe feature above the front
door that helps support to the roof and a rain chain on the
corner that catches runoff on rainy days. The feature gives a
nod to the owner's Japanese heritage.
LEFT: A waterfront house built to remain intact in the event
of a landslide features a garage designed to detach from
the rest of the residence. Built on stilts with an advanced
drainage system underneath and complete with a bridge that
connects it to the road, the home has a treehouse feel that
will only be intensified as time passes and more landslides
affect the area, leaving the home and the trees behind.
