TOP FACING PAGE – This view from the front parlor into the foyer gives an
incredible view of the towering long leaf pine pillars and the intricate parquet
floors all original to the home.
BOTTOM FACING PAGE – Front Parlor. This view of the front parlor highlights
the detailed and intricate work of original owner, Sue Houston. It reflects her
travels in Europe where she studied art in Paris. The classical style of the 1800s,
so typical of the Victorian era, greatly influenced her work.
ABOVE – Dining Room. The dining room includes rich finely carved long leaf pine
wainscoting and the original fireplace mantel. The murals covering the walls are
detailed scenes also typical of the Victorian era also painted by original owner,
Sue Houston.
RIGHT: Grand homes of this era often included a conservatory where exotic
plants from far reaches of the world could be cultivated.

After her mother died and her daughter married and
moved away, Mrs. Houston converted part of the
house into apartments. Mrs. Houston lived in the
house until her death in 1851. Other owners included
Gene and Diana Smith who did extensive restoration.
The current owners are Dean and Aletha Wyman.
The Texas Historical marker was placed in 2003.
