Grandeur of Gonzales
W.T. DAWE HOUSE
723 N. College Street
William Thomas Dawe attended school in Gonzales, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and then graduated
with honors from the University of Galveston Medical School in 1906. Originally, he set up practice in Wrightsboro but
quickly moved to Gonzales where he lived the rest of his life.
The Queen Anne style house was actually built by F.B. Baker in 1907 but he reportedly never lived in it. It was purchased
by Dawe in 1908 and remained in the Dawe family until 1996 when it was purchased and fully restored. It is a wonderful
three bedroom cottage and features twelve foot high ceilings, longleaf pine woodwork, fretwork above the entry hall door
and beautifully restored wood floors.
It is owned by Del delosSantos and Aaron Apperson.
