128 Grandeur of Gonzales SOLOMON JOSEPH HOUSE 226 St. James Street This house is one of two houses that Solomon Joseph bought and extensively remodeled. Parts of this structure could date to the 1850s. The last major remodel was in 1898. Examination of the attic reveals that the house was expanded several times. The well in the front yard is of historical significance because it is believed to be the original well belonging to Almaron and Susannah Dickinson who lived in their home on this site before Almaron went to die with the "Immortal Thirty-two" at the Alamo and Susannah, who went to join Almeron in the Alamo, brought the word to the people of Gonzales that the Alamo had fallen. Owner is Alise Mullins. Photograph by Patty Stewart, Gonzales Camera Club
