9 western washington Seattle, Washington, is simply iconic. Unrivaled beauty, a thriving arts and culture scene, and of course, exceptional wineries make Seattle a must-see hub of activity throughout the year. The SoDo Urban Works tasting center, in particular, offers a number of wineries within walking distance of one another. Walk, ride your bike, or ride share through the neighborhood and explore the funky, sometimes irreverent, wineries that call Seattle home. In the Georgetown neighborhood, old brick buildings have been repurposed into wineries, intriguing bars, and delicious restaurants. Dozens of wineries in Seattle make it easy to sample, compare, and pick your favorite wines from scores of options. But just 30 minutes from the city sits Woodinville, where more than 100 wineries and tasting rooms from wineries across the state await. The area's oldest winery, Chateau Ste. Michelle, imparts Old World style to the region and stands as an homage to the industry's pioneering beginnings. It is joined by other remarkable wineries that call Woodinville home. Located in the Puget Sound AVA, the region boasts a temperate, maritime climate, making it the coolest and wettest growing region in the state. Pinot Noir is the region's most planted variety, followed by Riesling, but it's suitable to interesting varietals seen nowhere else in Washington: Regen, Siegerrebe, Madeleine Angevine, Muller Thurgau, and more. Whether you wish to explore the bustling urban environment in Seattle, step out among the rolling hills of Woodinville, or better yet, explore both, there are more things to see and do in both areas than a day allows.
