COLUMBIA VALLEY RECKONING
gourmet pairings
The rich, savory flavor
and texture of comforting
food like handmade pasta
Bolognese matches perfectly
with Reckoning.
tasting notes
Reckoning, as highly-rated as
any at its price point, is full-bodied, balanced, well-structured,
and satisfying. Aromas of red currant and raspberry open to
barrel spice, bramble, cocoa, and crème brûlée coating every
corner of the palate. The wine is approachable in its youth but
age-worthy with sufficient backbone to pair well with a variety
of foods from rustic to serious. It's another favorite of the
winemakers, first produced in the winery's second year and its
flagship red blend.
winemaker's insight
The winery's approach in the vineyard and cellar is virtually
identical to Cabernet Sauvignon "the V" and the winery's lineup
of single vineyard Cabernets and other wines: fruit is grown
at low tonnage per acre, harvested at ripeness, managed to
produce a wine realizing all the potential carefully tended fruit
has to offer. The wine is then bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Fruit from Mays Discovery Vineyard in Horse Heaven Hills, Red
Willow Vineyard in Yakima Valley, and Stillwater Creek Vineyard in
Frenchman Hills of the North Central Columbia Valley is used to
make the Reckoning. Vines range in age from approximately 15
years to three decades.
