17 Barrage Cellars WOODINVILLE Passion for winemaking and big, bold flavors meet in Barrage Cellars wines. Founding winemaker and owner Kevin Correll began his career in winemaking after taking his own advice: "If you love what you do, you'll never consider it work, and you need to make sure you're happy in your job." The advice was initially for his daughter, but Kevin then realized he wanted an early and fun retirement for himself and his wife. So, he began making wine in his garage as most hobbyists do, and volunteered at larger, established wineries to learn the ropes. It was at one of these wineries—in a facility housed in a remodeled barn—that his first barrel production and the name of his winery were born. In a play on words, garage-barn, barn-garage, and as an homage to his winemaking style, Barrage Cellars' name was a perfect fit. Since establishing the winery in 2006, and since receiving his Enology degree from UC Davis, Kevin has crafted brilliant Bordeaux-style wines and some unique whites. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah comprise the winery's red offerings, while an elegant Chardonnay and an aged in concrete Viognier are the extent of the winery's white wines available to the public. Wine club members enjoy small quantities of Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah, GSM—a Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre blend—Pinot Noir, and Malbec depending on the year. Relying on the help of volunteers to assist with production, bottling, and tasting room/events, Kevin and wife, Bonni, ultimately run the winery themselves. While Kevin creates the wines, Bonni manages the tasting room and all business aspects of the winery including distribution, accounting, and public relations, but it's their grandson Decker who's the big star.
