Photograph by John Kaplan Photography of his last name from Galitzine to Golitzin after immigrating to the US following WWII. From the beginning, the grapes have been sensational, prompting the winery to release its first vineyard- designated Galitzine Cabernet Sauvignon in 2004. In 2006, Robert M. Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate wrote, "There isn't a Cabernet producer with this winery's track record for consistency," and bestowed two perfect 100-point ratings on both the 2002 and 2003 vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. Two years later, the winery received another 100 point rating from Mr. Parker's publication for the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon and again for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon. Wine Advocate followed these ratings with two more perfect scores for both the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Galitzine Vineyard in 2017. Wine Spectator weighed in too, naming Quilceda Creek to its prestigious annual "Top Ten Wines in the World" list three times in the last decade (2003 #2, 2010 #10 and 2012 #2). Most recently, Wine Advocate named Quilceda Creek "Best Washington State Winery 2017" at its Extraordinary Winery Awards for the Americas gala. The honor is presented to one winery in each major wine region of the world that "stands qualitatively above all others," according to Wine Advocate editor-in-chief Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW.
