For Jarrod and Ali Boyle, founders and owners of Alexandria Nicole Cellars,
winemaking has been a grand adventure. A Prosser native, Jarrod developed
a deep appreciation for the land after years of vineyard management, part of
which included serving as the assistant viticulturist at Hogue Cellars under
Dr. Wade Wolfe. Here, Jarrod realized his passion for grape growing and
winemaking. Subsequent years of further training at UC Davis, the help of
consultants, and tasting as many different wines as he could get his hands on
led to Jarrod—along with Ali—planting grapes in 1998.
Alexandria Nicole Cellars, lovingly named for Ali by her husband, sources
grapes from its Estate Vineyard, Destiny Ridge. With over 20 varieties planted
in their vineyard, they are intent on crafting wines that stylistically speak to
the terroir from which the grapes come. Crafting wines that are well-balanced
and elegantly approachable.
In the vineyard, Jarrod works alongside a devoted crew to oversee the quality
of the fruit that goes into every bottle of Alexandria Nicole Cellars wine
that comes from the 267-acre Destiny Ridge Vineyard. Located along the
ridge line of Horse Heaven Hills it is overlooking the Columbia River allowing
for the maritime influence of the river which imparts conditions similar to
that of a coastal region, serving to protect the vines year round. The river
never freezes, even on the coldest of days, but produces a fog that blankets
the vines and insulates them. Wind from the river keeps the air moving in
spring and summer months thus reducing the likelihood of natural enemies
to the vines—mildew and fungal disease. Depending on where one stands
