283 a soft, silky wine that packs a flavorful punch, loaded with wild berries, fresh plums, and hints of oak spice. Nicault now oversees the winemaking responsibilities for Saggi. Australia's John Duval crafts Sequel Syrah. Duval began his career in winemaking with Penfolds in 1974, and in his nearly three-decade tenure there, including 16 years as chief winemaker, accumulated numerous international awards most famously as the winemaker for Penfolds Grange. He left Penfolds in 2002 to establish John Duval Wines and shortly thereafter joined Long Shadows. His winemaking hand is evident in Sequel's rich, concentrated style. Chester-Kidder Red Wine, named in honor of Shoup's mother Elizabeth Chester, and grandmother Maggie Kidder, is Nicault's creation. A New World blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and other Bordeaux varieties, Chester-Kidder is prized by collectors for its complexity, elegance, and refined tannins. It is one of three Long Shadows wines to be served at a White House state dinner. Nicault also crafts Poet's Leap Riesling, Long Shadows' sole white wine offering. The wine was originally inspired by Armin Diel, owner of Schlossgut Diel in Germany, one of the most respected producers of Riesling in the world. One of America's most acclaimed Rieslings, Poet's Leap has twice been named to Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Wines list. Long Shadows carefully sources grapes from Washington's best vineyards.
