CHESTER-KIDDER RED WINE
gourmet pairings
Pair with braised short ribs
and roasted root vegetables.
tasting notes
Expressive aromas and flavors
of ripe black cherries, oak
spice, violets, and a hint
of graphite offer this wine
depth and complexity. Its rich
texture and firm yet refined tannins linger across a lengthy finish
that showcase the limited-production wine's vibrant character.
Extended macerations of 40 days give the wine supple tannins
that stand up to 30 months of barrel aging in tight-grained
85-percent new French oak barrels. Integrated fruit that enhances
the mid-palate, an extra layer of complexity, and an earthy finish
make it a favorite.
winemaker's insight
More than half the grapes used in the Chester-Kidder Red Wine
were grown on Red Mountain and surrounding vineyards, which
give the wine its firm structure and pleasant intensity. Walla Walla
Valley vineyards comprise another significant portion of the
blend, contributing dark, rich textures to the wine. Grapes from
Weinbau Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope add a layer of ripe,
fresh flavors and refined tannins.
