3 Tanjuli Winery ZILLAH After 25 years of producing wine, Tom Campbell still wasn't ready for retirement. With a deep love for the grapes that hail from the Rattlesnake Hills of the Yakima Valley, it seems Tom has always known crafting wine is his calling. UC Davis classmate—and winemaking partner at both Chateau Ste. Michelle and Quail Run Winery— Stan Clarke introduced Tom to the region in 1981. In 1982, Tom established the white wine production for Quail Run Winery in Zillah, and in 1984, Tom and wife Hema settled in the Rattlesnake Hills to simultaneously start Horizon's Edge Winery and Mission Mountain Winery—the first winery in Montana, Tom's home state. Horizon's Edge, which was founded when fewer than 20 wineries called the region home, was sold in 1999 to allow Tom and Hema to focus on their children and other venture, The Woodhouse Wine Estates in Woodinville. With an undying passion for wine, the couple founded a seven-acre vineyard for the production of authentic estate wines in 2005. As the vines matured, the winery, Tanjuli Winery, was established in 2011. Named for Tom and Hema's children—Taj and Anjuli—Tanjuli Winery epitomizes the work ethic and resilience of the couple's families. Tradition, heart, and an appreciation for history, as well as Hema's cultural heritage, makes Tanjuli Winery a distinctive destination. Literally nestled into the hillside, the winery itself is surrounded by high-density vineyard. In the cool cellar, natural temperature control from the hillside negates the need for additionally heating and cooling.
