Signature Wines and Wineries of Coastal California
2011 ALEKSANDER
gourmet pairings
This wine pairs well with a
truffle risotto, or a variety of
other rich mushroom-inspired
dishes. Other great choices
include a sirloin-tip side steak
and grilled vegetables or a
hearty beef stew.
tasting notes
The 2011 Aleksander follows a refined, yet muscular inaugural
2010 vintage with a modest and elegant presentation of the
classic Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon marriage. A cooler
growing season delivered moderate alcohol content, making this
wine a nice partner for pairing with a wide variety of dishes.
winemaker's insight
The majority of fermentation was done in half-ton bins, punched
down three times a day. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon were
aged separately in a combination of French, Eastern European,
and Serbian oak barrels for about a year. Then the wines were
carefully blended to reflect the winemaker's palette, and returned
to barrel to age together for an additional six to eight months in
a special barrel selection.
