Willow Creek Vineyard's 90-acre hillside is perched at an
elevation of 1,750 feet surrounded by oaks, redwoods, sequoias
and walnut trees. Sustainable farming is practiced in the 20-
acre vineyard planted in clay loam soils topped with calcareous
rock. Certain principles of organic and biodynamic farming are
practiced, incorporating biodynamic applications of special
homeopathic teas. An additional 20-acre pasture was added to
the Allegretto portfolio on the east side in the Estrella District.
Douglas established Allegretto wines in 2013. While searching
for the perfect name for the winery and resort, he decided on
Allegretto, a musical term that means to play with a cheerful
tempo, it also describes a life lived joyfully, in harmony and with
intention.
Integral to all operations of the resort, Douglas is also
involved with all aspects of the winery including overseeing
the production of wine barrels, applying his knowledge of
numerology to this craft. Winemaking is done by the careful
hands of award-winning winemaker Alan Kinne.
The annual case production is a mere 2,000 cases of artisanal
wines that are age-worthy, reflecting Paso's bright fruit with a
layer of sophistication. : The Duetto blend is a co-fermentation
of Viognier and Vermentino; the jasmine-scented Viognier is
brightened with subtle notes of honeysuckle.
