THE MODERN RESIDENCE
FACING PAGE & BELOW: The house is sited on a ridge 200 feet above the Potomac River in McLean, Virginia, much closer to
the water than the previous 1970s-era home was. Appearing to be single-story from the street front, the stucco-clad structure is
revealed from the river side to be three levels, all glass-walled to showcase the view. Vaulted roofs evoke airplane hangars and
Roman forms, echoing both the homeowner's line of work and classic design. Balconies also run the length of the home, provid-
ing even more access to the extraordinary river views from this two plus acre site.
