THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW: Located in a clearing in the woods with expansive views to the Southern Berkshire Hills, the Sharon Connecticut House was
designed to accommodate an active retired couple and the frequent visits of their extended family. It's set on a quarter-mile wooded
drive that ends in a defined forecourt, anchored by a barn-red clapboard entrance pavilion set against Connecticut limestone and
natural cedar walls. From the entrance, you step into the living room with a 36-foot-long window wall capturing the distant views.
A blind-mortared limestone double-sided fireplace divides the living and dining spaces. We were also responsible for the interior
design and the structure of the surrounding landscape. Sustainable features include FSC-certified wood throughout, a five-kilowatt
solar array, closed-cell insulation, radiant heat, and passive cooling.
