THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW: In keeping with the surrounding historic mill cottage residences, we moderated the scale of this 3,244-square-foot house by
locating much of the structure below street level. As the home is situated on a sloping site, it was also designed to provide maximum
daylight into the walk-out basement. The front balcony is a modern reinterpretation of the traditional, southern front porch.
FACING PAGE: The house's unique, primary cladding is comprised of a metal T-panel coated by Precoat Metals in PPG's Duranar® VARI-
Cool™ paint system. This color-changing polychromatic paint is UV-responsive and shifts from a copper color to bright pinkish-orange
depending upon the time of day and angle of the sun. It is an amazingly dynamic façade treatment.
