THE MODERN RESIDENCE
BELOW: The Orchard House, named for site's abundant fruit trees, is located just outside Portland's urban growth boundary
on former farmland. Our client had just retired and requested a secluded retreat that connected to the landscape while also
functioning for entertaining. We were inspired by traditional Japanese "tsuboniwa" courtyard design with the raised walkways
surrounding a sculpted landscape.
FACING PAGE: The form of the Orchard House incorporates floating white roof and wall planes separated by glass which slide
past each other to create a layered composition.
