Dean Larkin Design
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA
Dean Larkin, AIA has been described as the quintessential Los
Angeles architect. His contemporary style and affinity for luxurious
indoor-outdoor living have earned him a reputation as the problem-
solver of typically difficult Southern California sites—think homes
built into a hillside, or unusually shaped lots that require extra
ingenuity and planning. Having grown up in LA and founded his
practice here in 1999, Dean is especially familiar with the area's
stringent regulations. Where others see problems, he sees potential.
As a result, his clients seek him out to turn naturally beautiful but
challenging sites into spectacular homes that evoke the unique
climate, attitude, and lifestyle of Southern California. Dean eschews
the simple geometrical uniformity of modern architecture and
instead strives for a multi-layered complexity that is both effortless
and elegant. His background in traditional architecture—which
required historical accuracy and getting every detail precisely right—
gives him an edge over his peers and affects his overall approach.
Since graduating from the University of Southern California's
respected School of Architecture, Dean had the honor of being the
first employee of Richard Landry, founder of Landry Design Group.
Working there allowed him to design many high-end residential
and luxury destination projects all over the world. While there,
Architectural Digest featured many of the homes prepared under his
careful preparation, including the Hunts Point residence of Kenny G.
