FACING PAGE & BELOW: The homeowners relocated from Marin County to Manhattan's Upper East Side, with the
goal of adding the warm, gentle, and fun spirit of California to their newly acquired 1,700-square-foot apartment.
Originally the home felt confining, narrow, and dark, but I raised parts of the ceiling in sweeping shapes and turned
walls into wide columns that hid pipes and structural elements.
