It's not unusual for children to dream about what they want to
be when they grow up, but few actually make it a reality. Since
the age of nine, however, Elida Doldan-Schujman has known
she would be an architect. Growing up the daughter of a
playwright in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she spent her formative
years watching set designers—many of whom were also
architects— construct fantastic facades onstage. After studying
architecture at Arizona State University, Doldan-Schujman
opened her own firm in 1983 and set about giving her clients
their own personal stage sets upon which their lives could play
out.
An avid traveler, Doldan-Schujman draws inspiration from far-
flung corners of the world and incorporates diverse cultural
ideas into her designs. Environmental impact is at all times
top of mind, as she strives to responsibly construct buildings
that are energy efficient and produce as little waste as possible
while supporting her clients' wishes and vision. A strong
connection to nature and the outdoors is always a priority,
while she embraces the challenges that come with urban,
historic, and conservatively sized projects as well.
