3 BELOW TOP: The renovation of a historic steel home with no interior structural walls presents its own challenges. The structure is entirely outside of the house, so it appears as though everything floats. The concrete floor is a stark contrast to the beauty beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. Light fixtures and furniture are used for a sense of scale and to break down the spaces, while the stone emerges out of the ground. Photograph by Eric Taylor BELOW BOTTOM LEFT: The volume and grandeur were there in this historic Georgetown property—the rooms just needed to be polished a bit. Adding color creates interest, while window treatments, lighting, and new furniture soften the space. Photograph by Kip Dawkins BELOW BOTTOM RIGHT: The family room on a farmhouse property presents a nod to the outbuilding's barn doors, which become a focal point of the space. The wood also contrasts the formality of the trim, with coffers breaking the scale of the wide expanse of ceiling.
