58 INSPIRED INTERIORS
BELOW: The great room is a flexible area that provides subtle demarcations for a living area, kitchen, dining, bar, and play spaces. It's appropriate for up to 200 guests, yet
it features intimate areas that are ideal for smaller gatherings. The space combines traditional function with an innovative, one-of-a kind design.
FACING PAGE TOP: The modern desert home's great room shows off angular lines in the walls and ceiling soffits that continue the overall design philosophy. From dark
wood ceilings, sleek white walls, and dark-textured stone on the fireplace, the contrast in tones and textures accentuate the architectural details.
FACING PAGE CENTER: For a home set in a rugged desert environment, we took cues for color and texture f rom the surrounding native canyon. The soft texture of a pewter
limestone wall and neutral-tone horizontal fireplace affords this great room a casual, warm ambience.
FACING PAGE BOTTOM: When we worked on a homesite surrounded by stunning mountains, we wanted to show them off, and used window walls to do so. Central is the
iron-peak stacked-stone wall traversing f rom outside to inside, set as a complement to the white oak floor and contrasting darker ceiling.
