ABOVE AND FACING PAGE: When we designed and built the Ballard Passive House, our main goal was to find a
balance between the best practices of passive design principles—which focus on energy efficiency—with high-
concept design ideals. That way, we could reduce the carbon footprint of the homeowners without sacrificing any
function or form. For us, the architecture must be rooted in strong design concepts.
