ABOVE & FACING PAGE: History and heritage are important in any project. On our Courtyard house, however,
these client-inspired values had a major influence on the design. The property had been in the family for
five generations and was once the location of the family's original cotton farm. This deep history with the
property greatly influenced all the decisions on the project. Today the estate is comprised of three main
elements: the historic home, a modern expansion, and the new barn. These three components create a
private courtyard with a negative-edge pool centered on the main axis of the house, which in turn organizes
the layout of the entire project.
